Drug & Alcohol Testing – Saliva Samples

Saliva tests detect immediately-recent drug use (last 3 to 24 hours) are performed in two stages.  The first stage is administered on the spot by the employer’s Human Resources (or resident health) professional. Positive drug results then trigger a second controlled test (again performed by the employer’s HR or health professional) which is reviewed/reported by Clinical Reference Laboratory.  Test results are determined within 30 minutes (if negative) and could take 2 to 3 business days for lab confirmation (if positive).

Saliva tests measure alcohol currently in the bloodstream.  This is a one-step test that reveals 0.02% to 0.30% blood-alcohol currently in the blood.

As with urine testing, the range of drug use being tested is a key determinant.
